Can you “uwu” and “owo” to success?

Can you “uwu” and “owo” to success? - DeltaHub

With over 15 mil users, Twitch has become the place to be for ambitious gamers, content creators, or anyone who likes to record themselves doing basically anything (as long as they follow community guidelines — get your mind out of the gutter).

We had a chance to take a peek into this world with the launch of our Carpio G2.0 — our first-ever gaming wrist rest that relieves your wrist without hindering your performance.

This Black Friday we launched Carpio G2.0 - special edition. Check it out here!

However, streaming still represented something unexplored for me. Luckily, our ranks got some new recruits lately, and one of them is Anja — our community manager and streamer on the rise.

The recognizable purple logo has been a staple in her life for quite a bit now, and she was more than welcome to lend a helping hand in exploring this vast world.

What’s your “streamer name” and where does it come from?

I go by the name goldpr1ncess. It’s a name I chose for myself because everything I wanted was taken, so I decided to give myself the cringiest name I could think of. While I’m streaming people call me Rika, but that’s a story for another time.

What got you into gaming?

When I was a child, I used to adore playing with puzzles, and that transferred to when I got my first computer, where I raided puzzles on a daily basis. Interestingly enough, I got into PC gaming much later on, in my high school and uni days. In 2020 I found Valorant and it kind of became “my game”, it’s the game I most often stream and the one I currently enjoy the most.

Firstly, can you tell me a little bit about your setup? Did you build it yourself?

Yeah, sure. I initially put my setup together back in 2018/19, so it’s a bit of an oldie nowadays. The PC itself is a budget build, I’m still a student after all. I was lucky enough an internet friend of mine was willing to help me out. To this day, it hasn’t changed much, except for the power supply, since the one I got back in 2018 got kind of broken in the transport process — basically I had a ticking time bomb on my desk for two years.

The stats:

Case:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5
  • GPU: Nvidia geforce gtx 1660 ti
  • Cooler master 750 W, bronze edition

Monitor: Asus (VG248QE), AOC (24G2U/BK), and Samsung (syncmaster P2250)

Sound system: Logitech x333

Mouse: Glorious Model 0

Keyboard: Hyper x Alloy Origins

Microphone: Beacn

Camera: Ryzer Kiyo Pro

Accessories: Loupedeck + Carpio G2.0

If you can give one piece of advice to someone starting to build their setup, what would it be?

Start slowly. Do some research and actually make a list of things that you want before buying them. Also, don’t be ashamed if you don’t have the newest components, the fanciest chair, or the best custom-made keyboard that is available on the market. These are things that come over time.

What’s your favorite part of your setup?

This is a hard one... but I would say my custom Phoenix-themed gaming desk mat.

Is there any other product featured on your setup you can't live without?

My microphone. I love to interact with people.

What’s your next setup goal?

Well, I want to make a proper streaming corner with a PC that can handle it. This means I will need to make a new PC, get 2 new monitors that are the same size as my middle one, buy a boom arm, and some nice backlights. I also wanna build a decent backdrop; as of right now, you can only see my bed.

Do you have any setup inspirations? Maybe, some creators you follow on IG?

I love to watch Setup Wars, hosted by TechSource. From there I usually go and snoop around people's Instagram and Reedit.

Let’s get back to the topic at hand. How long have you been streaming?

I’ve been streaming for about a year now.

Do you think it could become your full-time job?

Yes, it could. However, I do admit that I don’t invest 100 % into streaming/content creation since I still attend uni.

Is it hard to make it as a streamer these days?

Definitely. Not only is the market already saturated with new streamers like me, but you also need to be likable and have friends that are established within the streaming community. Or be super lucky, which I’m (thankfully) not.

You’re a student and you’re working, how do you have time for streaming?

It’s hard…, especially because, on the one hand, I really want to commit to my regular streaming schedule but, on the other hand, I still need to focus on my studies. That is why I haven’t fully concentrated on streaming/content creation. Because if I do, I know I won’t finish my master's.

What are some of the things you need to pay attention to in order to succeed?

Trends and time management. I’m now at the point where I need to hire editors to do the job for me because I can’t afford to spend 4+ hours per day editing.

Gaming was considered to be a “guys thing” for the longest time. Do you think that has changed?

It’s slowly changing. However, the recent bathtub streamers might have shone the dark light on us yet again…

Did you face any difficulties being a “girl streamer”?

Yes — constantly. I get comments like "go to the kitchen" or "can I get a Snapchat?" on the daily. My voice is on the low side, so I get the occasional “Are you a boy?” as well. I got used to it over time and nowadays I make fun of it, but I have a lot of friends who are also “girl streamers” and poking fun at them is a big no no in my book.

Do you think streaming is a viable profession?

It is as long as you combine it with content creation on other platforms. Unfortunately, it’s really hard to live off of just streaming..

Do work with any brands?

I haven’t had a chance to work with anyone so far. But it is true that I’m super selective about who I wanna be sponsored by. I have nothing against Raid Shadow Legends, but for the love of god, stop sending me the deals haha!

What’s one piece of advice would you give to a newbie streamer?

Try to have fun and be authentic. People will eventually stop by and stay because of who you are, not what type of dope background you have.

Do you have some streamers you’d like to plug?

TheClutterer, megsoundslikeegg, 88EXP and FakeAnanas.

Finally, what are your streaming goals for the future?

I have many, but I wanna become a creator that will make other people smile. To me, it doesn’t matter if I stream to 1 person or 100. I appreciate all the individuals who have a minute of their time and say hi to me in chat.

It was so much fun chatting with Anja about streaming and what goes on behind the scenes, it really gave me a whole new perspective on streaming.

What do you think? Could you be a streamer?
