The back of the case is a circular 4-colour E Ink screen, the same family of screen used in e-readers. It draws power only in the moment the image changes, so there is nothing to charge and nothing running in the background.
You set what it shows from the app and send it across over NFC. Colour on E Ink is mixed from a small set of inks (red, yellow, black, white) rather than lit from behind, so a picture settles in looking closer to a printed poster than to your phone screen. Text and line art are crisp, and photos with strong, clear colour read best, while a dim, low contrast photo will lose detail.

I got the white case, it fits well and looks good. The image casting from the app works well.
The screen quality can be improved, especially in terms of brightness. Works well on cartoonish images but more complex images need to be thought of.

Discovering XTREM INNO
Amadej, our co-founder and lead product designer, discovered XTREM INNO at the Hong Kong trade show in November 2025. A small, fast-growing team who looked like the first ones to get a battery-free E Ink case right. It was one of the rare products Amadej was genuinely impressed by.
He's carried one ever since, and people keep asking him where he got it. That's what made us think about selling it.
Their engineering, our version of the app
This isn't a category we'd have entered on our own. DeltaHub makes things for comfort and focus at your setup, so you can create more. But this was unusual enough that we thought our community would want it, especially with our own presets on top.
So we asked to make a co-branded version rather than build our own. Starting from the first sketch would have taken two years and made nothing better.
First, limited run
Before committing to anything, we asked our community whether they'd want one. Hundreds said yes and told us what they'd put on the screen, which is where our presets came from.
So this is a preorder. We order the number people actually want rather than guessing. Whether there's a second depends on how this one goes.
There's no markup: the same price XTREM INNO charge for it themselves.

When does it ship?
In December. This is a preorder: you pay now, production and logistics run through November, and every case in the drop ships together.
Ordering other items with it? Those ship right away, and the case follows in December at no extra shipping cost.
Delivery takes a few days to a couple of weeks after that, depending on your location. You get a tracking number the day your package ships.
If any of the dates move, we will write to you. Want out before it ships? Tell us and we refund you in full.
Will there be a second run?
Maybe, and we cannot promise it. This is a limited first run with XTREM, and how it goes decides whether there is another one. If you want this case, this is the run to be in.
How well does it protect the phone?
A case with a screen on the back still has to behave like a case. The frame is XTREM's patented structure and they have put it through several drop tests. The corners are reinforced to take the impact, the bezels sit raised around both the screen and the camera lenses so neither touches the ground first, and the case carries an IPX4 water resistance rating, which covers splashes and rain.
Can it get wet?
Rain and splashes, yes. The case is rated IPX4, which means it handles water hitting it from any direction. It is not a waterproof case, so do not take it swimming or hold it under a tap.
Is it bulky?
It weighs about 45 grams and is 2.2 mm thick, so it feels like a normal slim case in the hand.
Does it work with MagSafe and wireless charging?
Yes to both. A charging puck covers the screen while you charge and it's back the moment you pick the phone up.
A MagSafe wallet or grip will also attach normally and will cover the screen for as long as it's on there, so if one lives on your phone permanently, this probably isn't the case for you.
Does Apple Pay still work?
Yes. The screen uses NFC to receive images, and does not block the phone's own NFC, so tap to pay keeps working.
Does the display need charging?
No. E Ink holds its image without power. The screen draws a little only in the moment you change what it shows, and it does not touch your phone battery.
Is the display colour? How do photos look on it?
Yes. It is a 4-colour E Ink panel, not just black and white.

Do the buttons, ports and speakers still work normally?
Yes. The buttons are covered and click as they should, the charging port and speakers are open, and nothing about the display gets in the way of using the phone.
Which app does it use?
G-SHELL, the app XTREM built for their cases. It is a free download on iOS. Inside it you get a DeltaHub edition with our presets and a set of wallpapers, so the case, your phone and your desk can match.
Everything the standard G-SHELL app does, ours does too, including linking up with a friend's case and sending images to it.
Can I send a screen to someone else's case?
Yes, if they have one too. Send an image from the app and it arrives in theirs. Once they accept it, it goes on the back of their phone and stays until they change it. The app can also merge two photos into one shared design.
